Somebody show Jeremy Urekew how to tie a knot. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Last night at 8:42 PM several Powell County Emergency Services were dispatched to a call at Hollerwood Off-Road Park for a UTV accident. Initial reports stated two individuals were making their way to the parking lot of the popular off-road park when they lost control of their vehicle and fell off an 80ft multi-pitch cliff. The female victim was able to call 911 herself. She reported that she was trapped inside the vehicle and that the male subject had been ejected.

Personnel from Powell County Emergency Medical Services, Red STAR Wilderness EMS, MiddleFork Fire/Rescue #874, and Powell County Search & Rescue partnered with civilian bystanders to search the different trails via UTV.

One team was able to locate the female patient and dispatched the remaining personnel to that location. A paramedic with PCEMS (also a member of PCSAR and RedSTAR) was able to set up an improvised rope system to gain initial patient access.

Multiple rope systems later and with the help of several different agencies, we were able to extract the female patient and transport her to the care of flight medical personnel.

Unfortunately, the male patient was pronounced deceased on scene.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and loved ones involved in this incident.

Thank you to all responding agencies and to all of the civilian bystanders that stopped to help our team’s efforts.

Attached are pictures of rescue personnel on scene setting up and operating the rope system, as well as pictures of the scene the following day.
